CORONAVIRUS —
INTERSTATE BORDER RESTRICTIONS
764. Hon COLIN TINCKNELL to the minister representing the
Minister for Police:
I refer to the minister's
answer yesterday to my question without notice 744.
(1) Given all
applications to enter the state are lodged electronically or via email
application, why is there not a centralised, comprehensive list of the
categories as to why people are entering the state?
(2) Why does the government's
current recording system not capture this level of detail?
(3) How was the
minister able to determine that the ''majority of exemptions related to
WA-resident domestic flight crews'', a ''number of those exempt
from quarantine were essential specialist workers'' or ''commonwealth
officials'' if the government does not keep a record of these reasons,
as stated yesterday?
(4) How is the
government able to determine the validity of the reasons for those who are
coming over the border and why, if they are not keeping a centralised record of
the reasons for people being here?
(a) If they are,
can the minister please table that list?
(5) How many
people being quarantined have been granted an exemption and are allowed to
leave their hotel room for what is deemed essential work purposes?
(a) If the
government does not have this data, why not?
(6) How can the
government claim to be effectively keeping track of those entering the state
without having collected this kind of essential data?
The PRESIDENT: That was a very
long question, member.
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
Madam President is indeed correct;
it is an eight-part question that could perhaps be more appropriately answered
through questions on notice in future.
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of this question. The following answer has been provided to me by
the Minister for Police.
The Western Australia Police Force
advises that its system has not been established to capture and collate the
level of detail sought. Further, for police to provide the available
information, it would require the diversion of police resources to manually collate details. If the honourable member places
the question on notice, the Western Australia Police Force will identify
what information can reasonably be provided without detracting from the police
response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
