Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 711 asked in the Legislative Council on 25 June 2020 by Hon Alison Xamon

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

BENNETT BROOK DISABILITY JUSTICE CENTRE — COMMUNITY SECTOR DISABILITY SERVICES

711. Hon ALISON XAMON to the Minister for Disability Services:

I refer to the disability justice centre and to work done to support people accommodated at the DJC to transition back into the community.

(1) Do DJC policies support community sector disability services to provide in-reach to individuals accommodated at the centre?

(2) If no to (1), why not?

(3) If yes to (1), which community sector providers currently provide services to individuals at the centre?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1)–(3) Given the Bennett Brook Disability Justice Centre's classification as a declared place, supports on-site are typically provided by centre staff. Should a resident be approved for leave of absence by the Mentally Impaired Accused Review Board, community sector disability services may be engaged. The centre supports individuals to access a variety of community-based services, such as a general practitioner, mental health supports, drug rehabilitation, education activities, and recreation opportunities in preparation for a successful transition back into the community.
