Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 1098 asked in the Legislative Council on 15 November 2022 by Hon Donna Faragher

Parliament: 41 Session: 1

CHILD AND ADOLESCENT HEALTH SERVICE — CHILD HEALTH APPOINTMENTS

1098. Hon DONNA FARAGHER to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for Health:

I refer to the answer provided to question without notice 587 asked on 9 August 2022 regarding the delivery of child health appointments and related services undertaken by community health nurses.

(1) Can the minister advise whether the following services are now being delivered face-to-face at all child health centres —

(a) drop-in sessions; and

(b) early parenting groups?

(2) If no to (1)(a) or (1)(b), why not?

(3) Is an appointment required for drop-in sessions at all child health centres?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

(1)–(2) I refer to drop-in sessions. The Child and Adolescent Health Service has commenced planning for the resumption of drop-in clinics from 9 January 2023. In WA Country Health Service regions, drop-in sessions are available in locations where population numbers support such a service. Face-to-face appointments for universal child health schedule contacts are offered in all WA Country Health Service locations.

I refer to early parenting groups. In the metropolitan area, parents and carers can choose to attend a face-to-face or virtual group. In WA Country Health Service regions, early parenting groups are offered face-to-face in locations where birth numbers support such a service. Parents can contact a child health nurse for parenting advice as required.

(3) Where drop-in sessions are offered, appointments are not required.
