BANNED DRINKERS REGISTER
TRIAL — KIMBERLEY
924. Hon KEN BASTON to the minister representing the
Minister for Racing and Gaming:
I refer to an article in The
Kimberley Echo of 30 August in which it was announced that the Kimberley
may join the Pilbara banned drinkers register trial.
(1) Will a detailed framework on how
the register will operate be available to participants?
(2) During the
trial, how soon after a violent or antisocial incident can a person or persons
involved be added to the register?
Hon
ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for the question.
The following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Racing and
Gaming.
(1) Any trial of
the banned drinkers register in the Kimberley will operate under the same
framework that has been implemented in the Pilbara; that is, a person who is
subject to a prohibition order issued by the director of Liquor Licensing or a barring
notice issued by the Commissioner of Police will be placed on the register and
will not be able to purchase takeaway liquor. A person can also elect to be
voluntarily placed on the register.
(2) Persons will be placed on the banned drinkers
register as soon as practicable after a voluntary request is received by
an individual; an application for a prohibition notice has been assessed and
determined by the director of Liquor Licensing; or, in the case of a barring
notice, it has been determined by the Commissioner of Police.
