Parliament: 41 Session: 1

AQUACULTURE LICENCES — ALBANY

610. Hon COLIN de GRUSSA to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Fisheries:

I refer to the government inviting applications for aquaculture licences and leases within the Albany Aquaculture Development Zone in the Oyster Harbour area.

(1) How many applications were received and assessed by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development?

(2) Have any licences or leases been approved; and, if so, how many, and to whom?

(3) Were all applications assessed in full compliance with Administrative guideline no. 1, 2017: Assessment of applications for authorisations for aquaculture and pearling in coastal waters of Western Australia?

(4) If no to (3), why not?

Hon SAMANTHA ROWE replied:

I thank the member for some notice of the question, and provide the following answer on behalf of the parliamentary secretary who represents the Minister for Fisheries.

(1) Four, one of which has since been withdrawn. The remaining three are being assessed by the department.

(2) No new licences or leases have been approved since the declaration of the Oyster Harbour area.

(3) Yes, the applications are being assessed in accordance with the relevant legislation and administrative guidelines.

(4) Not applicable.
