Answered on 11 October 2022

The Road Safety Commission advise:

(a) The total reported crashes involving at least one heavy vehicle by crash nature and crash year, 2017-2021 is provided in Table 1.  Data on all reported road crashes will not be available until Main Roads WA formally release crash data in April 2023.

(b)  Yes.  The Driving Change Road Safety Strategy for Western Australia 2020-2030 includes ‘vehicles as a workplace’ as a strategic focus area, with particular relevance to the heavy vehicle industry.

(c) The available crash data does not specify whether a vehicle rolled during a crash.

(d) The Driving Change Strategy addresses single vehicle run off road crashes (including truck rollover accidents) as part of the Regional Road Safety Program. Funding of $827.5 million has been allocated to this program until the end of June 2024, which will see some 8,500 km of regional roads upgraded.
