Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 1259 asked in the Legislative Council on 24 November 2022 by Hon Dr Steve Thomas

Parliament: 41 Session: 1

HEAD CONTRACTOR RELIEF SCHEME

1259. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the minister representing the Minister for Finance:

I ask this question on behalf of Hon Steve Martin, who is absent from the chamber on urgent parliamentary business.

Hon Sue Ellery: No, you are meant to say ''urrr-gent'' parliamentary business!

Several members interjected.

Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS: I try not to copy other people. I refer to the government's head contractor relief scheme.

(1) Will the minister outline how many claims to access the fund have been assessed?

(2) How many claims have been successful?

(3) Has FIRM Construction applied to access the funding?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question and answer on behalf of the minister representing.

(1) Like other jurisdictions across the world, the building and construction sector in Western Australia has experienced impacts from global supply chain disruptions, tight labour markets and price escalation. Both private and public construction projects are being impacted by these global supply pressures. The head contractor financial relief scheme was part of a series of initiatives to assist the building and construction industry through these challenges, while enabling key infrastructure projects to continue. The Department of Finance has 16 claims currently under assessment.

(2) In addition to the 16 claims under assessment, four claims have been approved under the scheme.

(3) The Department of Finance does not provide details of individual claimants.
