Parliament: 41 Session: 1

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AMENDMENT (TEMPORARY COVID-19 PROVISIONS) BILL 2022

875. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the Minister for Emergency Services:

I refer to the Emergency Management Amendment (Temporary COVID-19 Provisions) Bill 2022.

(1) On what date was the Parliamentary Labor Party first briefed on this legislation?

(2) Who was consulted about this legislation and were any organisations or individuals outside the state government consulted?

(3) Has the Chief Health Officer or the State Emergency Coordinator provided any advice about this bill, and, if so, will the minister please table this advice?

(4) Given that this bill directly relates to managing the COVID-19 pandemic, why has the state government refused the opposition access to the Chief Health Officer about this bill?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1) The state Parliamentary Labor Party was briefed on Monday, 19 September 2022.

(2) The Department of Fire and Emergency Services, the Department of Health, the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, the Department of Justice, the Department of Communities, the Department of Treasury, the Department of Finance, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, the Western Australia Police Force, the State Emergency Coordinator and the Chief Health Officer were consulted.

(3) Both the Chief Health Officer and the State Emergency Coordinator were consulted on the bill.

(4) Briefings on the bill have been provided to all members of Parliament who have requested them.
