Question Without Notice No. 443 asked in the Legislative Council on 10 August 2021 by Hon Tjorn Sibma

Parliament: 41 Session: 1

DAMPIER PENINSULA AND BUCCANEER ARCHIPELAGO MARINE PARK

443. Hon TJORN SIBMA to the minister representing the Minister for Environment:

I refer to an ABC online news article of 24 June by Hannah Barry titled ''Dampier Peninsula, Buccaneer Archipelago marine park plan attracts 17,000 submissions''.

(1) How many submissions on the draft marine park plan were received from individuals or groups domiciled outside Australia?

(2) Will those submissions be set aside or will they be considered in the formulation of the final draft marine park plan before it receives ministerial approval?

(3) How many submissions on the draft marine park plan were received from Australian-based individuals or groups domiciled outside Western Australia?

(4) Will those submissions be set aside or will they be considered in the formulation of the final draft marine park plan before it receives ministerial approval?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1) There were 871 submissions on the indicative joint marine park management plans received from individuals or groups domiciled outside of Australia.

(2) All submissions are considered. The location or origin of responses is taken into account to ensure that local issues are addressed in the finalisation of the management plan.

(3) There were 12 520 submissions on the indicative joint marine park management plans received from Australian-based individuals or groups domiciled outside Western Australia.

(4) See answer to (2).
