Question Without Notice No. 489 asked in the Legislative Council on 12 August 2021 by Hon Dr Brad Pettitt

Parliament: 41 Session: 1

PUBLIC HOUSING — WAITING LIST

489. Hon Dr BRAD PETTITT to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for Housing:

I refer to the public housing waitlist.

(1) How many people were on the public housing waitlist at the end of June and July respectively?

(2) Of the people in (1), how many receive the disability support pension?

(3) How many people were on the public housing priority waitlist at the end of June and July respectively?

(4) Of the people in (3), how many receive the disability support pension?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1)–(2) As at 30 June 2021, 17 194 applications were on the public housing waitlist, of which 3 293 applications had household members in receipt of a disability support pension or payment. As at 31 July 2021, 17 320 applications were on the public housing waitlist, of which 3 312 applications had household members in receipt of a disability support pension or payment.

(3)–(4) As at 30 June 2021, 3 354 applications were on the public housing priority waitlist, of which 826 applications had household members in receipt of a disability support pension or payment. As at 31 July 2021, 3 478 applications were on the public housing priority waitlist, of which 857 applications had household members in receipt of a disability support pension or payment.

These waitlist figures are well below the numbers seen under the previous Barnett Liberal–National government, which peaked at 24 136 in 2009–10.
