Question

(1) How many registered guns were stolen from residential homes in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 to date?
(2) With reference to (1), for each of the years indicated, on how many occasions were multiple guns stolen from each residential address? (For example, one, two, three guns etc)?

(1)   The Western Australia Police Force can provide the number of firearms stolen, from residential homes in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 to date, however cannot identify the registration status.

**The maximum number of firearms stolen in one incident during this time period was 21. Rows for numbers 13 to 20 were omitted as there were no incidents with these numbers of firearms stolen in one incident during the time period in question.

Notes: 

  1. Statistics are provisional and subject to revision.
  2. Statistics in Table 1 are a sum of distinct firearms stolen in incidents reported between 1 January 2019 and 12 September 2022.
  3. Statistics in Table 2 are a distinct count of incidents reported between 1 January 2019 and 12 September 2022, by the sum of distinct firearms stolen per incident.
  4. Stolen firearms have been defined as property items recorded in IMS with a classification of ‘Stolen’ and type of ‘Firearm’. Figures are therefore reliant on the assessment and accuracy of the recording.
  5. Residential homes have been defined as the place where the incident occurred and was recorded in IMS with a place type of ‘House’. This includes houses, flats/units, park homes, nursing and retirement homes.
