Origin of the Name:
Named after the two rivers in the electorate. The Warren River was discovered in 1831, and was named by Governor Stirling, probably after Admiral Sir John Borlase Warren, under whom Stirling served while in action in North America in 1813. The Blackwood was also named by Stirling in 1830 after Captain (later Rear Admiral) Sir Henry Blackwood, under whom he served in 1808-09 while in action in the North Sea and the Mediterranean.
