On June 26 2003, the Legislative Council referred the Corruption and Crime Commission Bill 2003 and the Corruption and Crime Commission Amendment Bill 2003 (“Bills”) to the Standing Committee on Legislation for inquiry.

When the Bills were introduced into the Legislative Council they comprised a single Bill namely, the Corruption and Crime Commission Bill 2003 (“original Bill”).

The original Bill was divided in the Legislative Council into the two Bills to enable those parts of the original Bill dealing with the establishment of the Corruption and Crime Commission to proceed through the Parliament. The Legislation Committee is empowered to conduct its inquiry without any regard being had to the enactment of one of the Bills during the period of referral.

For the purposes of the inquiry, the Committee is seeking submissions in relation to the text of the original Bill which is below.
